I am a full-time freelance copy-editor and proofreader based in south-west Scotland. I can work both on-screen and in the traditional way on paper. My areas of specialist knowledge are angling, oil and gas exploration, hazardous chemicals, management/quality management, health and fitness, and modern electronic music.

I can work on Microsoft Word files with Word 2003 or 2007, PDFs using Adobe Acrobat, and website files with Adobe Dreamweaver. I am currently training in page layout with Adobe InDesign.

My formal training has been with the Publishing Training Centre. I have completed the Basic Proofreading course (Merit) and am currently completing their Copy Editing course.

My background is in the oil and gas industry where I worked for seven years after graduating from Sheffield University in 1989. In 1997 I joined a Yorkshire chemical manufacturing company where I worked as Quality Manager and later as Operations Manager.

I have contributed to two published books on angling and I write magazine articles for both the UK and US angling press. For three years I was editor (in my spare time) of Pikelines magazine. Recently I have copy-edited two specialist angling books.

I have a BSc (Hons) degree in Geology and hold the following professional qualifications: Certificate in Operations Management (Distinction), Certificate in Supervisory Management, Drilling Supervisor's Certificate (HSE), Drilling Supervisor's Certificate in Subsea Well Control, Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA).

Resulting from 34 years of experience as a university academic, my editing/proofreading work is mainly for academic publications (journals, books and thesis/dissertation preparation). I have edited and compiled conference proceedings and company newsletters, and have carried out work for an amateur youth theatre. I maintain the index for a scientific journal.
