Humbie Editorial is a proofreading and copy-editing business based just outside Edinburgh in the beautiful East Lothian countryside. I provide everything for the client from a spelling and grammar check to a substantial copy-edit which looks at consistency, layout, reference formatting and appropriateness of language.
In addition to an Honours degree in English and proofreading training from both SfEP and the Publishing Training Centre, I have extensive writing, proofreading and copy-editing experience as a senior civil servant. I worked for the Scottish Government, advising Ministers and producing clear and accurate writing, tailored for the audience.
I am experienced in proofreading blind, against copy and on screen using track changes. I have worked on student essays and research proposals, Government reports, legislation and regulations, advertising copy, tables, speeches, explanatory leaflets, grant applications, policy letters, and community newsletters.
I have policy experience in a wide range of areas including government and public administration, education, social work, health, equalities, poverty and sport. I am also interested in history, heritage, travel and tourism, art and photography, cookery, crafts, gardening and, of course, Scotland.
I am reliable, fast and unflappable, with training and extensive experience in project and time management, a good working knowledge of Italian and sound common sense.
