Freelance proofreading and copy-editing
Proofreading and copyediting are about making the path between the reader and the author’s message as smooth and clear as possible.
I can provide different levels of editing depending on your particular needs:
ensuring correct spelling, grammar and punctuation
making sure that your text is clear, consistent, appropriate and concise
assessing tone and style
looking at more technical matters such as captions, footnotes, heading styles and hierarchies, illustrations, layout, references and tables.
Another pair of eyes will help to make sure that your message or ideas are conveyed effectively to your readers.
While I specialise in services for academic authors and publishers and in the subject areas listed below, I am happy to work with more general materials and other subjects.
I have a BSc in biochemistry and molecular biology with first class honours. Prior to my editorial career, I worked for twelve years as a Health and Care Professions Council-registered biomedical scientist in diagnostic laboratories in the NHS in various disciplines.
I work with documents in Microsoft Word using tracked changes.
I am an Intermediate Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and I abide by their code of practice.
