I am a medieval historian and archaeologist turned editor and proofreader. A native English speaker with a PhD in Archaeology and History from the University of Glasgow, I have over five years’ experience of editing and proofreading. I have undertaken the SfEP’s training courses: P1 Introduction to Proofreading, P2 Proofreading Headway, CE1 Introduction to Copy-editing and P3 Proofreading Progress (in progress).

My work as editor of Northern Studies, the interdisciplinary journal of the Scottish Society for Northern Studies, which focuses on the connections between Scandinavia and Scotland from the medieval to the modern eras, means that I have significant experience of editing work outside my main areas of expertise. I have considerable experience of helping non-native English speakers to polish their written English; for example, I am the editor of a volume on Bishops’ Identities, Careers and Networks in Medieval Europe to be published in the Medieval Church Studies series by Brepols. Twelve of the thirteen contributors are non-native English speakers, so I have edited their papers to ensure a consistent standard of written English.
