Qualifications and skills
I am an Advanced Professional Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP) and a Licentiate of the City & Guilds Institute (LCGI) in Editorial Skills. I have an MA (Honours) in Greek and Hebrew and a PhD in Greek. My knowledge of Latin, French, German and Italian is often useful in my editing work.
I am a tutor on the SfEP’s Editing with Word course, to which I contributed, and a mentor in proofreading for the SfEP.
I have a thorough knowledge of Word’s editing tools, including templates and styles. I will happily proofread on paper or PDF.
I have worked on over 200 titles, many of them for educational publishers such as Hodder and HarperCollins.
For academic publishers I often handle projects from copy-editing to final proofs, including multi-author volumes. I have extensive experience of liaising with authors.
I enjoy working on non-fiction, including illustrated books, on subjects including history, biography/memoirs, and travel and adventure. Clients include Thames & Hudson and Birlinn.
I have expertise in working on MBA materials for higher education institutions.
I offer a full consultation and editorial service for public and private sector clients, especially for work on reports, prospectuses and in-house magazines.
